Internal Complaints Committee

The establishment of Internal Complaints Committee (IC) at ASIET is as per Section 4, All India Council for Technical Education (Gender Sensitization, Prevention and Prohibition of Sexual Harassment of Women Employees and Students and Redressal of Grievances in Technical Institutions) Regulations, 2016 vide No. F.AICTE/ WH/2016/01 dated 10th June, 2016 

The objective of an Internal Complaints Committee in an engineering college is to provide a  mechanism for addressing complaints of sexual harassment, discrimination, and other grievances  from the students and staff in a confidential and sensitive manner. The primary goal is to create an  environment that is free from harassment, intimidation, and discrimination, and to promote a  culture of respect and equality for all. 

Composition

The Internal Complaints Committee should consist of the following members: 

Chairperson - A senior faculty member 

Two faculty members - one male and one female 

Two student representatives - one male and one female 

An external member who is an expert in the field of sexual harassment or related issues

Functions

  • To receive complaints from the aggrieved persons, either orally or in writing, and to take  immediate action to resolve the issue. 

  • To provide counseling and support services to the complainant. 

  • To investigate the complaint in a timely, fair, and impartial manner.  

  • To ensure the confidentiality of the complainant and the accused. 

  • To take appropriate action against the accused if the complaint is found to be true. To provide periodic reports to the management about the complaints received and the  actions taken.

Procedures

  • The Internal Complaints Committee should display its contact details prominently in the college  premises. 

  • Any student or staff member who has a complaint should approach the Internal Complaints  Committee with the necessary details. 

  • The Internal Complaints Committee should provide a written acknowledgement of the complaint  to the complainant. 

  • The committee should investigate the complaint by gathering all necessary information and  conducting interviews with the complainant, accused, and witnesses. 

  • The Internal Complaints Committee should provide a written report of its findings and  recommendations to the management. 

  • The management should take appropriate action based on the recommendations of the  Internal Complaints Committee . 

  • The Internal Complaints Committee should provide periodic reports to the management about the  complaints received and the actions taken. 

  • In conclusion, the Internal Complaints Committee in an engineering college plays a crucial role  in creating a safe and inclusive environment for all members of the college community. The policy  should be communicated clearly to all students and staff members, and any violations should be  dealt with strictly.
