The Department of Civil Engineering of Adi Shankara Institute of Engineering and Technology has been functioning since 2013. Initially the Department was affiliated to Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam. Currently, the department offers a four year B.Tech programme under the affiliation of APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University (KTU) . The Department has a sanctioned intake of 60 students under the programme. The Department has grown tremendously over the past six years and haVE three batches of students who have graduated from the Department. This is a professionally run department, focusing on an education system that emphasizes deep learning of the fundamentals, research and entrepreneurship to contribute to society and environment.
Apart from academic courses, the department provides various add-on courses, hands-on training of software, industry incorporated expert talks, seminars and workshops to students as well as the faculty. The department has signed MoUs with various recognized institutions like KKM Soft, which can enhance the knowledge and original thinking of students.
As a never old discipline of engineering, the graduates from the department have a wide choice of career opportunities, right after their course. The students from the department have been placed in core companies like Dalmia Cements, as part of campus placements. Apart from the private companies, the job opportunities in public sector jobs, like Railways, SAIL, NTPC, BPCL, PWD etc. are higher when compared to other streams of engineering.
Currently, the department has a strength of 225 students across the four batches, backed up by faculty who have completed their post graduations and PhDs from elite institutions like IITs and NITs. The department has well equipped laboratories and computing facilities to aid the students and faculties in research work and consultancy services.

The students of the Department are privileged with experienced faculties and skilled technical staff, who mould the students academically sound and make them ready for industrial exposure. The Department includes seventeen faculties who have completed their PG and Ph.D from elite institutions such as IITs and NITs, with some pursuing their Ph.D programmes in various institutes. The faculties also have attained experience from reputed industries.

Materials Testing Research Laboratory:
Material Testing Laboratory is a well-equipped laboratory which provides ideas on the practical knowledge of test several properties of material like ductility, surface roughness, malleability, hardenability etc. Apart from curriculum, some additional experimental setups are there which helps the students to enhance their knowledge. Students also get opportunity to implement their ideas through various application oriented micro projects.
The purpose of establishing this facility : This lab helps the students to enhance their knowledge in various materials testing. Also,Material Testing helps the students to understand and make a well-informed idea on the practical knowledge of test several properties of material like compressive strength, Tensile strength, Flexural strength, Impact strength, etc.
Concrete Testing Research Laboratory:
This is one of the major laboratory for civil engineering as it deals with various construction materials like cement, aggregates, concrete etc. The various machines in the laboratory includes Compression Testing Machine of 2000KN capacity, Concrete vibrator, Specific gravity weigh balance, Compaction Factor Apparatus, Flow Table Test Apparatus, Slump Cones, Tiles Flexural Strength Testing Machine etc,

Geo technical Research Laboratory:
The Geotechnical Laboratory aids with the various tests of soil strength and compressibility characteristics of soil. The various equipment in the lab includes Compaction test apparatus (light & heavy), Unconfined compression tester. Consolidation apparatus, Direct shear test apparatus, Permeability apparatus, Over-head tank, CBR test apparatus, Vane shear apparatus, Tri-axial test apparatus, Hand operated extractor, High speed stirrer, Liquid limit device, Shrinkage limit set, Sieve set, Sieve shaker motorized with digital timer, Core cutter, Hydrometer and Pycnometer.

Transportation Engineering Research Laboratory:
The Transportation Engineering lab has modern equipment for testing different properties of pavement materials. The equipment in the lab can be used for consultancy work like pavement mix design and testing the quality of materials used in pavement construction. The laboratory consists of CBR Apparatus, Marshall Stability Test Apparatus, Los Angeles Abrasion Test Apparatus, Aggregate Impact Tester, Aggregate Crushing Value Apparatus, Ductility Testing Machine, Ring and Ball apparatus, Stripping value apparatus, Pensky Martens Apparatus, Standard Tar Viscometer, and Centrifuge Extractor.

Environmental Engineering Research Laboratory:
This laboratory facilitates the students in analyzing and estimating the water quality standards using equipment like Autoclave, Spectro-photometer, BOD incubator, Muffle Furnace, Imhoff Cone, Magnetic Stirrer, Flocuulator etc and a wide variety of chemicals.
