
Adi Shankara Trust Managing Trustee Sri. K.Anand and NSS Programme officer Prof. Sijo George received two NSS National Awards from Hon’ble President of India Smt. Droupadi Murmu on September 24, 2022. The awards were given to Adi Shankara Institute of Engineering and Technology for hosting the Best NSS Unit and for having the Best NSS Programme Officer, Prof. Sijo George at the helm of various social service activities. Adi Shankara Institute of Engineering and Technology more popularly known by its acronym, ASIET, had initiated several creditable social service activities during the past several years under the leadership of its Programme Officers, team of students and its apex body, Adi Shankara Trust under the stewardship of Sri K. Anand, the Managing Trustee. The most noted activities of the National Service Scheme include: relief activities taken up during the Floods of 2018 & ’19; acts of innovation, resilience and productivity during COVID times; skill development initiatives targeted at helping the downtrodden in society; volunteer work under Swachh Bharat Mission; 100% successful implementation of Green Protocol; conduct of medical camps; re-wilding activities taken up in connection with restoration of mangroves; construction of houses for the homeless and the destitute; and so on. ASIET has received the Kerala State Awards for the Best NSS Unit, Best NSS Programme Officer, and Best Student Volunteer consecutively for 3 years. In addition student volunteers and programme officers of ASIET NSS Unit have actively participated in numerous national as well as international programmes and events. Prof. Sijo George, NSS Programme Officer at ASIET has been the Regional Coordinator of NSS Central Region, District Coordinator of KTU, and the Kerala State Coordinator of Energy Cell. The National Awards that have come to ASIET evidently become great laurels that incentivize future activities and plans laid down by the Adi Shankara Trust and the NSS Units at ASIET.
