Applied Electronics & Instrumentation

Today, imagining a world without instruments has become preposterous. The pursuit to invent and innovate on new instruments has pushed us beyond limit to an age where instruments have become a part and parcel of life. Instrumentation can be defined as the art and science of measurement and control of process variables within a production, or manufacturing area. The discipline of instrumentation engineering is a specialized branch from the streams of electrical and electronic engineering that deals with measurement, control and automation of processes. The impact of automation in our lives, escape our notice as they have become inevitable and we can not live without them. The reach of automation is wide spread from vending machines to self driven cars and is justified as this saves time, money and effort.

The Applied Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering curriculum includes courses that equip our graduates to work in diversified engineering fields. The industries like process and manufacturing, power, defence, avionics, aerospace, agriculture provide great career scope for the pursuers of the course. The demand for this branch is growing rapidly and job opportunities for graduates are very high.

The graduates can find work in MNCs like Sony, LG, Samsung, and Philips, in the departments like quality control, research, design & development. Under the public sector, jobs are available in the Railway Recruitment Board, DRDO, IES, ONGC, BSNL, NTPC, BEL, BHEL, Indian Armed Forces, and Telecommunication Department. Some of these companies consider GATE score for recruitment. Interested graduates of this stream can find entry as consultants, entrepreneurs, and teachers. Over the past four decades the field of instrumentation has seen an extremely widespread application in almost all disciplines of engineering for e.g. mining & metallurgy, robotics, textile, mechanical, chemical and safety engineering. The sectors like fitness, health, safety, education and energy are also benefited by this branch of study.

With a view to mould and nurture young minds in this field and to empower them to conceive ideas, set goals and work towards betterment of the society and nation, Department of Applied Electronics & Instrumentation Engineering was started in year 2005. Department currently offers a  four year B.Tech programme in Applied Electronics & Instrumentation Engineering and admits around 60 students to B.Tech, based on the All Kerala Rank obtained through class 12 and qualifying entrance examination. Our goal is to impart value based quality education along with the development of positive attitude, skills and abilities to apply their knowledge in order to face the challenges of the future.

We have state-of-the-art laboratories, and young and dynamic faculty involved in providing quality education and promoting innovative research. The infrastructure and lab facilities are excellent and provide adequate opportunities for students to learn and innovate. Apart from the delivery of the given curriculum, courses are given which are updated regularly in tune with the advancement in technology and its applications. The department regularly takes various initiatives like personality development courses, soft skill courses and employment oriented technical and management courses for providing the students a clear and decisive edge in employability through modular and supplementary programs based on industry tracking and feedback. The department has forged a strong Institute-Industry Interface with leading companies to continuously bridge the gap between college education and Industry needs through summer Internships, employment training programs, guest lectures and other interaction programs. Knowledge and skills of faculties and staff are regularly updated through well-planned and executed development programs. They publish their work in reputed journals and also review and contribute contents to technical journals. In the midst of imparting theoretical and practical subject knowledge, the department targets the holistic development of students, intellectually, emotionally, psychologically and physically. Trained in a broad-based discipline that has relevance across various industries, our graduates are well positioned to solve crucial engineering issues and to improve the living conditions of the modern world --making things more efficient, optimal, sustainable and affordable.
