Faculty Profile
 Dr Sreedeep Krishnan
Dr Sreedeep Krishnan
Associate Professor & Head of Department

Some engineers choose between the classroom and the factory floor. Dr Sreedeep Krishnan chose to bring both worlds together and has spent the better part of two decades doing exactly that within the Department of Robotics and Automation at ASIET.

His path into engineering did not begin with a lecture hall; it began with a diploma in Applied Electronics, followed by a Bachelor's degree in Applied Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering, and later a Master's in Power Electronics and Drives. Between these milestones lay two formative years as a Project Engineer, commissioning programmable logic controllers and industrial control panels for organisations including Emerson Climate Technologies and Petronet CCK, work that took him from valve-station automation to punching-machine programming on live industrial floors. That grounding in real, working automation systems has never left his teaching; it shows in the way he treats every classroom concept as something that must eventually run on a machine, not just on paper. He has since completed his doctoral research in field robotics for agriculture, extending his engineering instincts into one of automation's most consequential frontiers: intelligent systems that can operate reliably in unstructured, real-world environments; an achievement that now anchors his standing as both an educator and a researcher.

As Head of the Department, Dr. Sreedeep brings an unusually rare combination; the discipline of an industrial automation engineer and the patience of an educator who has guided students across an extraordinary range of technical territory. His project supervision spans programmable logic control and SCADA systems, computer-vision-based instrumentation, precision agriculture robotics, smart aquaponics and hydroponic farming systems, cobotic manipulation, and embedded monitoring platforms for everything from neonatal incubators to livestock farms. Few academic mentors carry supervision experience across such a breadth of applied domains, and fewer still can speak to each with the authority of someone who has also stood inside a plant, wiring a control panel under production deadlines.

His research contributions reflect the same range; spanning machine learning applications in physiological signal analysis, model-predictive control for adaptive vehicle systems, computer-vision-based valve positioning, and remote laboratory platforms that extend industrial-automation training to students who would otherwise never access such equipment. That last thread, in particular, reveals something of his educational philosophy: technology should widen access to opportunity, not gatekeep it.

Beyond the classroom and the laboratory, Dr. Sreedeep has shaped the department's institutional fabric; as placement coordinator, stream coordinator for automation, laboratory in-charge for the automation and industrial electronics labs, and an active member of the institution's innovation, entrepreneurship, and quality-assurance bodies. He has also carried his expertise outward, delivering corporate PLC training to organisations such as GMR Power Plant, Mangalore, and Emerson Climate Technologies; a reminder that his relevance extends well beyond campus walls. As a long-standing member of the International Society of Automation, The Robotics Society, and the Instrument Society of India, he remains as connected to the profession's evolving standards as he is to its classroom instruction.

At the helm of the Department of Robotics and Automation, Dr. Sreedeep Krishnan represents a model of leadership built on lived engineering experience and now completed research depth; someone who asks students not merely to learn automation, but to understand, from someone who has done it, what it actually takes to make a machine work in the real world, and researched it at the highest academic level.

Dr Sreedeep Krishnan's career traces a rare and deliberate arc; from a diploma in Applied Electronics through a B.Tech in Applied Electronics and Instrumentation, a Master's in Power Electronics and Drives, and a Ph.D. in Field Robotics for Agriculture; each stage deepening a professional journey spanning more than seventeen years across industry, research, and academia. That journey began on live industrial floors, commissioning PLC and SCADA systems for organizations including Petronet CCK and Emerson Climate Technologies, before evolving into sustained academic leadership at Adi Shankara Institute of Engineering and Technology, where he now serves as Head of the Department of Robotics and Automation. His research spans industrial automation, computer vision, machine learning, and precision-agriculture robotics, reflected in national and international journal and conference publications and reinforced by specialized training including Siemens industrial automation and robotics instruction, KUKA robotic systems training, ISA-certified industrial automation, C-DAC professional certification, and over fifty Coursera credentials spanning emerging technologies. Across more than a hundred faculty development programmes, workshops, and short-term courses, he has built equal fluency in Outcome-Based Education, quality assurance, and curriculum design as in the technical disciplines he teaches. He has guided over fifty academic and ten industrial projects; from computer-vision-based instrumentation to smart aquaponics and cobotic systems; while shaping departmental direction as placement coordinator, automation stream coordinator, laboratory in-charge, and an active contributor to institutional quality-assurance processes. His continued engagement with professional bodies, including the International Society of Automation, The Robotics Society, and the Instrument Society of India, reflects a career built on relentless learning as much as delivered expertise. What distinguishes Dr. Sreedeep is coherence: an engineer grounded in working plants, a researcher advancing real-world robotic autonomy, and an institution-builder preparing students for an intelligent, automated future.
